A straightforward blow torch for plumbing and heat work

When a job calls for fast, localised heat, a dependable torch head is one of the most useful tools in the kit. The ProFire Blow Torch is designed for everyday trade and workshop applications where a controllable flame and portable cylinder connection matter more than unnecessary complexity.

Attach it to a compatible CGA 600 gas cylinder, set the flame using the adjustable valve and direct the heat where it is needed. Because the torch connects straight to the cylinder, there is no separate hose assembly to organise. That makes it a convenient choice for work in plant rooms, workshops, garages and other locations where equipment needs to be moved regularly.

This listing is for the torch head on its own. It is ideal if you already keep suitable fuel cylinders in stock or want to choose MAPP/Map-Plus or propane separately for the work ahead.

Adjustable flame for better control

Different heating jobs need different levels of intensity. The ProFire torch incorporates an adjustable valve, allowing the user to change the flame size rather than working with one fixed output.

A smaller, carefully directed flame can help when heating a defined area or working near surrounding materials. A stronger flame can be used when the task requires more heat input, subject to the fuel selected and safe working conditions. This control is valuable when moving between tasks such as preparing a copper fitting, applying heat to a stubborn component or carrying out general workshop work.

Always begin with the valve closed, follow the lighting instructions supplied with the torch and introduce fuel gradually. The correct setting is the one that heats the work effectively while remaining stable and controlled.

Compatible with MAPP/Map-Plus and propane cylinders

The ProFire Blow Torch is intended for compatible propane or MAPP/Map-Plus cylinders that use a CGA 600 valve connection with a 1″ x 20 UNEF thread. Check the valve type and thread specification on your cylinder before attaching the torch; similar-looking cartridges can use different connections and are not automatically interchangeable.

When to choose MAPP or Map-Plus Gas

MAPP-style or Map-Plus fuel is a popular choice for plumbing and higher-heat applications. Its hotter flame can bring suitable workpieces up to temperature quickly, which is useful for tasks such as soldering and brazing. The precise working temperature depends on the fuel formulation, torch, airflow and operating conditions, so the fuel manufacturer’s instructions should always take priority.

When propane may be suitable

Propane is widely used for general heating, softer soldering work and other jobs where maximum heat is not essential. It can be a cost-effective fuel for routine tasks, provided that it is appropriate for the materials and joint being worked on.

Whichever fuel you choose, use only a sound, compatible cylinder in the correct orientation and inspect the connection before every use.

Ideal for soldering copper pipe

For plumbers and heating engineers, one of the most common uses for a MAPP gas blow torch is soldering copper pipe and fittings. The ProFire torch provides an adjustable flame that can be directed around the fitting to heat the joint evenly.

Good soldering results depend on preparation as much as heat. Cut the pipe squarely, deburr it, clean the mating surfaces and use the correct flux and solder for the system. Heat the fitting rather than holding the flame directly on the solder, then allow the heated joint to draw the solder in. Always protect nearby walls, timber, insulation and finished surfaces with a suitable heat-resistant barrier.

The torch may also be used for brazing where its output, the chosen fuel and the materials are suitable. Because brazing temperatures and filler materials vary, confirm the requirements of the specific joint before starting.

More uses around the jobsite and workshop

The ProFire Blow Torch is not limited to pipework. Appropriate uses include:

  • Thawing frozen pipework: apply indirect, controlled heat only where it is safe to do so, beginning near an open outlet and moving gradually along the pipe. Never use a naked flame on plastic pipe or close to combustible materials.
  • Freeing seized components: controlled heat can help loosen some rusted nuts, bolts and metal fittings by encouraging thermal expansion.
  • General heat treatment: useful for suitable metalworking and workshop processes that require localised heat.
  • Automotive and mechanical work: suitable for selected heating tasks when fuel lines, vapours, wiring and heat-sensitive parts have been isolated or protected.
  • Outdoor cooking: may be used appropriately for lighting a barbecue or searing food, provided the fuel, environment and operating method are suitable for that use.

Do not use the torch for any task unless you understand the material being heated and the fire, fume and pressure risks involved.

ProFire or Turbo Blow Torch?

The ProFire is the lower-priced choice for customers who want a straightforward adjustable torch head. PipeStation’s Turbo Blow Torch is listed separately with built-in piezo ignition and a continuous-flame lock, which may be preferable for users who value trigger lighting and extended use.

Choose the ProFire if simplicity and lower initial cost are the priorities. Choose the Turbo model if the additional ignition and flame-lock features suit your working style. Both should only be paired with cylinders that have the correct stated connection.

How to attach and use the ProFire Blow Torch safely

Gas torches produce an intense naked flame and should only be used by a competent person. Read the instructions supplied with the torch and fuel before use.

  1. Work in a well-ventilated area, clear away combustible materials and keep an appropriate fire extinguisher nearby.
  2. Wear suitable eye protection, heat-resistant gloves and work clothing. Tie back long hair and avoid loose garments.
  3. Confirm that the cylinder is the correct fuel type and has a CGA 600, 1″ x 20 UNEF connection.
  4. Check the torch, valve, threads and cylinder seal for dirt, wear or damage. Do not use damaged equipment.
  5. Make sure the torch valve is fully closed before connecting it to the cylinder.
  6. Keeping the cylinder upright and away from ignition sources, screw the torch on by hand until it is secure. Do not cross-thread or overtighten the connection.
  7. Check the joint for leaks in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Never test for a leak with a flame.
  8. Point the torch away from people, the cylinder and combustible surfaces. Use the approved ignition method while opening the valve gradually.
  9. Adjust the flame only after stable ignition. Keep control of the torch and never leave it burning unattended.
  10. When finished, close the valve fully and allow the torch to cool on a non-combustible surface before handling or storing it.

Never modify the torch, use adaptors not approved for the product, or expose a gas cylinder to direct heat. If you smell gas, hear unexpected leakage or see an unstable flame, shut off the fuel if it is safe to do so, move away from ignition sources and ventilate the area.

Frequently asked questions

Does the ProFire Blow Torch come with MAPP Gas?

No. This listing contains one ProFire blow torch only. If you also need fuel, choose a compatible cylinder separately or consider PipeStation’s MAPP Gas + ProFire Torch Pack.

Which cylinders fit the ProFire torch?

The torch is specified for compatible propane or MAPP/Map-Plus cylinders with a CGA 600 valve connection and 1″ x 20 UNEF thread. Check both the connection and fuel suitability before buying or attaching a cylinder.

Can I use the ProFire blow torch for soldering copper pipe?

Yes. The product is intended for soldering applications and its adjustable flame makes it suitable for controlled heating of copper pipe fittings. Use the correct preparation, flux, solder and heat protection for the installation.

Is the flame adjustable?

Yes. The valve allows the flame size to be increased or reduced to suit the work.

Does this torch have piezo ignition?

Integrated piezo ignition is not stated on PipeStation’s current ProFire listing. Plan to use a suitable manufacturer-approved ignition method. PipeStation also sells torch options whose listings specifically describe built-in piezo ignition.

Can I use propane instead of MAPP gas?

Yes, provided the propane cylinder is suitable for torch use and has the specified CGA 600, 1″ x 20 UNEF connection. Propane and MAPP-style fuels have different heat characteristics, so choose the fuel appropriate for the task.

Can I use it to thaw a frozen pipe?

The torch is promoted for thawing frozen pipes, but a naked flame is not suitable for every location or pipe material. Never use it on plastic pipe, near combustible construction or where hidden services may be affected. Where conditions are uncertain, use a safer non-flame method.

Is the torch suitable for brazing?

It can be used for suitable brazing tasks. Confirm that the selected fuel and torch output can achieve the working temperature required by the joint, filler metal and base materials.

Is an ignitor included?

No. This pack contains the ProFire torch only. PipeStation has a separate ProFire pack that includes an ignitor and replacement flints.

How should I store the torch and fuel?

Allow the torch to cool completely before storage. Follow the manufacturer’s directions regarding disconnection from the cylinder. Store fuel cylinders upright in a cool, well-ventilated place away from heat, ignition sources and direct sunlight, and keep them out of reach of children.

Is the ProFire Blow Torch suitable for professional plumbers?

Its adjustable flame, direct-cylinder format and compatibility with common CGA 600 MAPP/Map-Plus and propane cylinders make it a practical option for many plumbing tasks. Each user should assess whether its features and output are appropriate for their particular work.
